6.30 pm – Learn – Planning a New Permaculture-Inspired Garden

Presented by Debbie Bassingthwaighte

Are you wondering where to start in planning your garden? Or do you want to design and extend the gardens you already have? If so, Debbie will take you through this practical session focused on basic planning concepts and inspiration.

This will be a practical workshop where we’ll look at Sophie and Nathan’s new block of land and soon-to-be-built home as a case study of how to start planning a new permaculture-inspired garden.

Sophie and Nathan will join us to answer questions, and Debbie will guide us through the steps and considerations when planning this new garden.

Concepts discussed will also be applicable to any garden. This will include:

  • Considering Sophie and Nathan’s goals and personal needs for their garden
  • Analysing the site
  • Understanding the climate, sun, shade, rainfall, wind, frost aspect and terrain
  • Identifying possible microclimates and permaculture zones

Following this Connect and Learn evening, we’ll then visit Sophie and Nathan’s place for the Garden Insights visit on Sunday 12 September. This will give us an important opportunity to see the property first hand and look at the various design aspects discussed.

Debbie is a teacher and designer with a deep interest in permaculture-inspired self-reliance and resilience. She has a home-based learning centre, Optimise Learning, where she teaches literacy, mentors facilitators and presents workshops. These regular Events are practical, boutique learning experiences tailored to your interests and needs, and planned for small groups to empower individual and community skill-building and resilience. Debbie also writes a Nurtured Life Blog to inspire others to live a Nurtured Life.

7.45 pm – Connect – Light Supper and Share Table

A light supper will be served (Gluten Free and Vegan options).

Sharing of produce opens after the presentation to allow plenty of time for everyone to place their donations on the Share Table, and then give you the opportunity to browse, connect and make your selections during supper.
